Smart Meter Configuration
A great deal of the Smart Metering equipment is based on the DLMS COSEM Protocol. This protocol proposes a way to federate the requirements of utilities and providers in order to get a generic way to communicate in the area of Smart Grids. Today, DLMS COSEM is certainly a widely accepted standard for meter communication, but also for other elements in the Smart Grid.
Providers, Utilities, and Integrators have a real need for the design and implementation of a simple, functional, adaptable and evolutive DLMS COSEM Meter Configuration Tool. SmartHawk is the new answer to this demand.
SmartHawk is the Generic DLMS COSEM Meter Configuration Tool for metering equipment. It can be connected to any DLMS COSEM Meter by means of communication ports like: HDLC ( Serial 485, Optical), S-FSK, PRIME, G3, Euridis, TCP/IP, Zigbee, M-BUS etc.
SmartHawk covers all customer requirements related to the Meter Configuration, particularly in the production process.
SmartHawk provides a clear and easy-to-use API to design the target Graphic User Interface required for the market or for customer needs. Smarthawk can be customized to be “the customer tool” for instance, to have a particular name, the look, and feel of the customer tools, colours, logos etc.
SmartHawk is a complete platform permitting to obtain a reliable and customized DLMS COSEM Meter Configuration Tool, and this, with very short delays.
The main objective of SmartHawk is to provide the right tool to the manufacturing and production processes in the Smart Metering area. In addition to the basic GUI and the possibility to customize it to comply with customer requirements, SmartHawk allows customers to create and execute scripts to facilitate the configuration of important volumes of equipment. Scripts can also be used for doing local testing during the installation process.

Andrea Informatique has been entrusted by several customers to design, implement and test prototypes based on the DLMS COSEM Protocol. In this context, it is essential to have a reliable and convenient tool at hand to configure the meter during the manufacture and production processes. SmartHawk has a relevant place in the mass production process but also for local and comprehensive communication with the smart meter.
The client DLMS COSEM library is integrated into SmartHawk. It runs on Windows and can be ported in a small laptop to configure and test field meters. SmartHawk can handle Sort Names and Logical Names. SmartHawk complies entirely with DLMS User Association BOOKS.
Here below you can see two examples of plug-in implementation. The customer can modify it, to add cosmetic features to get the look and feel normally used in the other tools of the company.
